Nova Sport 1 is a Czech premium sports television channel. Launched in March 2002 under the name Galaxie Sport and re-branded in September 2008 by TV Nova, Nova Sport broadcasts sporting events and sport-related programming in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Nova Sport 1 owns rights to broadcasting licenses for major sport leagues and events including the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), National Hockey League (NHL), Premier League football, FA Cup, the National Basketball Association (NBA), ATP Masters Series (tennis), Major League Baseball (MLB), Le Mans Series, IndyCar Series (autosport) and PGA European Tour (golf). In addition, Nova Sport has broadcasting rights to Formula 1 programming as part of a TV Nova contract. Nova Sport also produces various weekly sports shows and magazines, as well as locally produced daily sports news programs in the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic. In 2009, Nova Sport 1 gained a major brand, MOTO GP, which starts on Nova Sport in April 2009. Nova Sport 1 appeals mainly to the male demographic aged 20–49 with sporting programs and events helping it achieve a weekly viewership of up to 563,000 during the fourth quarter of 2008. The combined Czech and Slovak Republic markets represent approximately 6 million households, out of which cable connection is being used by approximately 1.8 million households. Currently, Nova Sport has carriage agreements with all of the largest cable distributors in the Czech and Slovak Republic, reaching almost 1.6 million subscribers. The General Director of Nova Sport is Petr Dvořák.
